Mini bananas, orange, figs and almonds come together in this beautiful composition. The artistry of trompe-l’œil is epitomized in the realism of these fruits. The art of “trompe-l’oeil” in sculpture, painting and ceramics has existed for centuries. Artists and artisans have always tried to imitate or parody nature to fool the eye or tease the mind. For over 50 years, the Figuères family of Marseille has been producing pieces in “grand feu” enamels. That expertise can be clearly seen in their work today -- an ultra-realistic style of “glazed earthenware illusions.”
