Another very familiar animal in the Manger scene is the Donkey. Along with the cow, its breath serves to keep the Newborn King warm in his bed of straw. Both the donkey and the cow are considered kingly among all the animals of the traditional Nativity scene. According to legend, they were both present in the first living Nativity scene presented by Saint Francis of Assisi.
Un autre animal familier de la crèche est l’âne. Comme celui du bœuf, le souffle de l’âne chauffe l’Enfant Roi dans son lit de paille. L’Ane et le Bœuf sont considérés tous les deux comme des animaux-rois de la crèche. D’après la légende, ils figuraient déjà dans la première crèche vivante présentée par Saint François d’Assise.
