This wandering tradesman travels from village to village in the Provençal countryside sharpening blades for all the villagers. He travels with his grindstone wearing a leather apron to protect his clothes. Villagers rush to hear the tales of his travels which are often embellished in his own special way. Since he earns little money, tradition holds that everyone offer him a 'chicoulon' or a little glass of wine which makes him all the more talkative and cheerful.
